There will never be a QB controversy with Matt Ryan and the Falcons
The Falcons announced Saturday that Matt Ryan would not be active for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Matt Ryan has only never played in one game during his entire Falcons career. He did not start in Week 12 or 13 of the 2009 season, but he did play in the Week 12 matchup that year, a 20-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Despite the current 1-6 record, Matt Ryan has at least given the Falcons a chance in most of the games that played this season. Of the eight games played this season, the Falcons were down more than two scores at halftime and entering the fourth quarter in the same game just three times.
Regardless of what happens tomorrow against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks, there is no quarterback controversy. Matt Ryan is the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons and will be for the next five to six years, regardless of what the outspoken few within this fan base think.
Many said it last week after Matt Schaub came in and threw the Falcons lone touchdown last week in the embarrassing loss to the Rams. What those same people refused to add to that ridiculous statement, is that the Rams didn’t have a damn defensive starter in the game when Schaub entered the game for Matt Ryan.
Matt Schaub has not started a game since December of 2015, which means he will have gone 1,421 days in between NFL starts. Matt Schaub has also thrown at least two interceptions in each of his last four starts. These are important numbers to remember for those clamoring that Matt Ryan is not the guy for the Falcons and that Schaub is somehow better.
For those of you that have been clamoring to see Matt Schaub play over Matt Ryan, you are getting what you asked for. As the old cliché goes – be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.
