Accountability is the Atlanta Falcons only real curse

Ask any Atlanta Falcons fan and they will swear this franchise is cursed. Given the last decade or so surrounding this franchise and it’s easy to see why many think that.

If you are unfamiliar with the Atlanta Falcons history, here is a brief history of the last 15 years. As Michael Vick was heading into his prime, he does something really stupid, gets caught and goes to prison. The Falcons are really bad, go through several head coaches, and end up with Matt Ryan and then Julio Jones.

Matt Ryan instantly leads the Falcons to the playoffs where they blow multiple leads in big games over his career and lose every year to the eventual Super Bowl champion in the playoffs. Mercedes Benz stadium is built on the ground where historical churches once sat and the fans believe that this is a big reason why they have failed as a franchise the last couple of years.

The question becomes, do you believe in this curse or is the problem a little bit bigger and a lot simpler than this? The answer lies within those that buy tickets and merchandise representing the Falcons.

Lack of accountability from fans may be the biggest reason for where the Falcons currently sit as a franchise. No, I am not blaming fans, but as long as we continue to buy tickets and merchandise, what reason does Arthur Blank actually have to make changes?

The only place to hit pro sports teams is in the pocketbook.

Buying tickets and not showing up to the games is useless, they already have your money. Sure, they would lose a little bit of money from lack of concession sales, but in reality that is a drop in the bucket and not enough to get anyone’s attention.

As fans, if we really want to see change and force Arthur Blank to legitimately put a championship roster on the field, led by the championship-caliber coaching staff and general manager, they will stop buying tickets, paying PSL prices and buying merchandise.

Sure this is a lot to ask, but that is the only way to truly get the attention of those in charge. We can keep complaining on social media and fan forums, but those in charge don’t read any of that nonsense. At some point, Arthur Blank has to be held accountable and this is the only recourse that fans actually have.

Is this farfetched? Yes. Will it happen? Nope. Until we actually get his attention, the Atlanta Falcons will be nothing more than pretenders who get close every few years and fold like a cheap tent in a small rainstorm when it really counts.
