Falcons and Saints is one of the best rivalries in sports
The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints play twice every year no matter what.
The old sports cliché of throwing the records out absolute matters in this game. These two teams met for the first time on November 20, 1967, a Saints 27-24 win. They have played twice every year since 1970 as they have been division foes since then, first in the NFC West and now obviously in the NFC South.
The Falcons hold most of the records in the rivalry.
Biggest margin of victory? That would be the Falcons 62-7 win in 1973.
Longest winning streak? That would be Atlanta’s 10 straight wins from 1995-1999. The Saints longest winning is six games from 1986-1989.
Falcons lead the all-time series as well 52-48.
Shockingly, okay maybe not, the Falcons and Saints have only met in the playoff one time, in 1991 and you guessed it that was also a Falcons win.
So while they may still shout 28-3 and whatever nonsense they can come up, most of which is unintelligible, we can smile knowing that the Falcons have dominated this rivalry since losing the first game way back in 1967.
Let’s hope that the Falcons can start a winning streak of their own this Sunday.
