Time for the Atlanta Falcons to don the throwback
By Adam Zippan
The Atlanta Falcons have worn the same uniforms since 2003. It is indeed time for a change, as the current look has become extremely stale, old and bland.
The time has come for the Atlanta Falcons to make their current throwback/retro uniforms the primary home uniform next season. To this day, this home uniform is still very popular amongst most fans.
Even though cool, modern, sleek uniforms don’t contribute to success on the field, it still makes the Falcons more enjoyable to watch when they don the throwbacks. The vintage unis consist of black helmets with the retro Falcons logo, black jerseys, and white pants.
The general consensus is these are the sharpest looking current Falcons uniform.
The current red jerseys with white pants have been in existence since 2003. These uniforms have gone out with the dinosaurs. The red jerseys with the sleeve striping resemble a cross between an arena league team and a circus clown. This look does not exude any toughness in any way. In fact, they are quite soft looking.
The road uniforms consisting of the white jerseys with white pants are even softer looking and exude even less toughness. Unbeknownst to fans, the team has not worn their black pants with either the red or white jersey in many years. This at least was somewhat of a sharper look and added some style and flair.
It is time for Arthur Blank to come to the realization that retro and vintage are in vogue today, are very popular and are what sells. Black has always been a very popular color when it comes to the Falcons uniform history.
This was the best thing former head coach Jerry Glanville introduced when he came back to Atlanta in 1990. The current Falcons uniforms are too much of a reminder of the Michael Vick era, and we all know how that ended.
The Falcons brand would be much more marketable from a branding perspective if they decided to make the vintage and retro uniforms the full-time home uniform next season. That would mean that a new road uniform would have to be introduced.
As long as it has black as the primary color, with the black helmet and retro logo, then no matter how bad the team is on the field, at least they will look better than most of the teams that they face.
