Lots of positives for Atlanta Falcons in win against the Saints
By Joe Beasley
This wasn’t the flashy game that some fans hoped for but this was by far the most effective offensive team effort the Falcons had this year.
There wasn’t a lot of deep plays down the field, the Atlanta Falcons took what the defense gave them and effectively use the short passing game to chunk away yards bit by bit.
The Saints were constantly sending four at Matt Ryan and instead of throwing the ball up for Julio like Ryan would do it the past, he simply took the check down.
Matt Ryan has time to throw today because this offensive line played excellently. Matt Ryan did get sacked once today when the Saints sent a blitz but other than that, Ryan stayed relatively clean today which bodes well for the Falcons especially since he is coming off a lower-body injury.
Not only did the offensive line protect Ryan today, but they were also able to help establish the run game. It might not seem like a big deal but the Falcons were able to get 143 yards on the ground which slowed down the game and kept the Saints high powered offense on the field.
Even when Freeman went out, Brian Hill was able to chip in with 61 yards in the ground. While no one on the terms cracked 100 yards, the fact they were able to control the pace of the game made this game easier for the Falcons.
