Matt Ryan strengthens Hall of Fame argument

Matt Ryan strengthened his Hall of Fame argument Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers when he moved past Warren Moon for 10th all-time on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list.

There isn’t a more polarizing figure in Atlanta sports other than Matt Ryan and he probably has no idea; if he does, his haters do not affect him. He shows up to work every day and does everything he can to lead the Falcons organization.

Coming into Sunday’s matchup against the Panthers, Matt Ryan needed just 254 yards to move into NFL history; he had 255 yards with 6:40 left in the third quarter after a touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley put the Falcons up 26-0.

Every person ahead of Matt Ryan is either in the Hall of Fame – Brett Favre, Dan Marino, John Elway or will be first ballot hall of fame selections when they are eligible – Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Eli Manning.

Sure, Ryan is missing a ring unlike most of those guys but when you look at the quarterbacks without NFL titles that are in the Hall of Fame, only Dan Marino has better numbers and Matt is on his way to obliterating them.

Sure, his haters will point to stats being meaningless without titles but no quarterback has won more or done more for this franchise and had Matt had a halfway decent defense during his career there is little doubt he would have had at least one if not a couple.

Matt Ryan still has at least five great years left and if the Falcons can add a few pieces on both sides of the ball this offseason, there is no reason that Matt Ryan cannot add that ring that people in Atlanta demand as proof of the greatness that the rest of us see.
