Atlanta Falcons have nothing more than fool’s gold in Dan Quinn
Dan Quinn is fool’s gold. There is no other way to describe the Atlanta Falcons head coach.
In case it is not crystal clear yet, the Atlanta Falcons have underachieved under the leadership of Dan Quinn and yet no one seems ready to move on because he is a likable guy.
In case you are not familiar with pyrite, fool’s gold, it is a type of stone that has a gold hue and a lot of different purposes, none of them sustainable. The gold color though led to be called fool’s gold. Dan Quinn is the NFL coaching version of fool’s gold.
Quinn says all of the right things and has a cliché ready to go at a moment’s notice. He understands what media and fans are wanting to hear and gives us that sound clip on time every time. Arthur Blank seems to be buying into his nonsense as well. How else can you explain Dan Quinn still being employed as a 3-8 head coach?
The Atlanta Falcons have a nice guy leading the way. The players like him but they clearly do not respect him. If they did, there is no way that they would put forth this type of effort game after game after game.
At the end of the day, Dan Quinn is the NFL version of fool’s gold. He has no real value but makes you feel good about yourself momentarily until you realize all you did was find a shiny rock. Dan Quinn made us feel great about ourselves for 10 games in 2016, however, since the fourth quarter of the 2016 Super Bowl, we have realized that he is not worth what we thought he was and yet we still continue to value him for more than he truly is.
Fool’s gold is something that kids enjoy finding, makes them feel like they are a real-life gold miner. As adults, we are well past that and expect our teams to provide high-level coaching with tangible results. Dan Quinn has not delivered tangible results since the 2016 NFC Championship game and it’s time to bury Quinn with all the other fools gold this franchise has ever uncovered
