The Falcons got one of the all-time greats when they selected Matt Ryan 3rd overall in the 2008 NFL draft and he has proven that over his 12 years and 186 starts.

No, Matt Ryan has not always been pretty. He has had his struggles in those 186 games, but he has had so many more highlights than lowlights. Those highlights along with his ability to stay even, helped him punch his eventual ticket to Canton Sunday at home against the Panthers.

Sure, there are many that believe that this site is nothing but Matt Ryan apologists and those same people are never going to give Matt the credit that he has earned. The good news is Matt does not need for those fans to give him the credit he has earned as the voters will when he decides to hang up his cleats for the final time.

On Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Matt Ryan became just the 10th quarterback in NFL history to throw for 50 thousand yards. In order to accomplish something of this magnitude, it takes more than simply the ability to throw a football.

Throughout his 186 regular-season games as the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback, Matt Ryan has been the same steadfast leader. He has never blamed his teammates when things have gone wrong and he has never accepted the credit when things have gone right. Matt has shown up every Sunday, except for two over his 12-year career and leads the Falcons to more victories than defeats and more good times than bad.

Not only is Matt Ryan one of 10 quarterbacks all-time to throw for 50 thousand yards, but he is also 11th all-time in passing touchdowns and 13th all-time in total wins as a quarterback. Both of those despite only having an above-average defense three times in his 12 years and an average offensive line just a handful of years as well.
