Matt Ryan defends Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn on NFL Now
By Deen Worley
Matt Ryan was featured on NFL NOW and expressed his desire and the teams wish to keep Dan Quinn as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
Atlanta Falcons are coming off of a huge road win in Santa Clara against the former NFC leading San Francisco 49ers. Most importantly, this win brings up speculation that Dan Quinn’s job could be safe for one more year.
Matt Ryan went onto NFL NOW on NFL Network to discuss how the team and himself feel about Dan Quinn
"“He has the respect of the locker room and the guys play hard for Dan,” Ryan said during an interview on NFL NOW. “There’s no question about it. We all appreciate everything that he does for us, the style of coaching, and he’s got great relationships with all of the guys in our locker room. So we love him. We are playing hard and doing everything we can for him.”"
He then went on to say that he hopes the second half of the season will be enough for Dan Quinn to be able to return for one more season.
It’s no secret that Dan Quinn has a great relationship with the Atlanta Falcons organization and the players on his team. When a team is 1-7 entering the bye week, it’s very easy for players to jump ship and give up on their head coach.
From Julio Jones‘ postgame locker room speech to Takk McKinley punching Dan Quinn in the chest playfully against Carolina, the energy surrounding this team has improved greatly since the bye week.
Now quarterback Matt Ryan coming out and publicly stating that the team is playing hard for Quinn to stay the head coach shows that these players do care and are well aware that their coaches job is on life support and these final two games could be the determining factor on his future in Atlanta.
Likewise for the team owner. Arthur Blank has come out numerous times and stated he fully supports his head coach. Even while saying he is disappointed, he still backed his guy and will ride him until it is clear he has lost the team.
The Atlanta Falcons have the potential to finish the season anywhere between 5-11 to 7-9. Only four times since 2001 have the Falcons finished with six or fewer wins. This season would finish out as the worst in Dan Quinn’s time in Atlanta if the Falcons lose one more game.
If Arthur Blank does bring back Quinn for one more run, 2020 would be the final year of his contract and will be the ultimate make or break situation for Dan Quinn.
It is fair to say that Blank is looking for reasons to keep Dan Quinn as the head coach in Atlanta or he would’ve been fired by now. The last thing you want as an NFL owner is a revolving door of head coaches and wasting away the talent this team has.
