Julio Jones quietly breaking records that matter
Julio Jones continues to add to his all-time greatness as he passes Jerry Rice as the fastest player to rack up 12 thousand passing yards.
According to the Atlanta Falcons, Julio Jones achieved 12 thousand passing yards in just 125 career games while it took Jerry Rice 142 games to achieve the same mark; that is a full season quicker.
Not only is the Julio Jones the fastest to get the 12 thousand-yard mark, but he is also the active leader in most 100-yard receiving games and has the fourth most all-time. Remember, this is the same receiver that the NFL left off their Top 10 receivers of all-time list earlier this week.
With his 166 yards today against the Jags, he moved past Hall of Famer receiver Michael Irvin for 27th all-time.
Next week’s finale against the Bucs will be a big one for Julio. With another 100 yards receiving game he will pass former Titans and Ravens great Derek Mason, Hall of Famer Hines Ward and Charlie Joiner to move into 24th all-time.
With 84 yards he will have his sixth straight 1,400 yards receiving year. His current streak of five is already an NFL record; no NFL great has had more than three consecutive.
While it would be great to see Julio get into the end zone more, his lack of touchdowns takes nothing away from his greatness on the field. Julio Jones has come to play every game all 125 he has suited up for.
In a day and age where greatness is judged by social media clout, Julio is often lost among those that discuss the greatest in the game because he is very quiet and prefers his game do the talking and not his Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
Julio would rather his teammates achieve than breaking records. Julio is special and should be appreciated as such.
