Atlanta Falcons falling in the draft is a good thing

After a horrible start to the season, the fans of the Atlanta Falcons became obsessed with tanking to draft Chase Young.

Just like the case for the majority of the season, the Falcons let the fans down and decided to go 5-2 after the bye week including the two biggest road wins of the entire 2019 NFL season – at the Saints and at the 49ers

Dreams of drafting Chase Young are now gone with the wind but this can turn out to be a good thing for the Atlanta Falcons.

There have been numerous times in which the front office didn’t make the best decision. The pressure of drafting a franchise player no longer exists for the time being and now this allows the Falcons front office to entertain all options and just not focus on one.

The Falcons first-round draft pick will go no higher than 18 and fans shouldn’t expect a pick no lower the eight.

They currently sit at 13 which is a good spot. There’s no pressure to draft the “savior” for the team but still in a good spot to draft someone that should make an instant impact regardless of position.

This team has its fair share of weaknesses they can address and pass rushing is still one of them. Vic Beasley is having a solid second half to the season and wouldn’t be surprised if they brought him back. He might not be the long term answer which is why they can still draft edge rushers like AJ Epinesa or Yetur Gross-Matos.

The secondary has been dealing with injuries for the better part of the last two seasons so some depth there wouldn’t be a bad idea. Players like Paulson Adebo, Grant Delpit and Trevon Diggs could be available in their draft range.

While most don’t see the Falcons addressing issues with the offensive line in the first round there are prospects that could step in and help the line too.

Next. Falcons might have to move on from Keanu Neal. dark

Even if the Falcons draft the best available player (as long as it’s not a quarterback, wide receiver or running back), there is no way the Falcons front office can screw up this pick and that’s a position that’s best suited for the long term success of this franchise.
