Many people expected Devonta Freeman to come back with a vengeance this season after missing most of last year due to injury. Needless to say, Freeman didn’t live up to that expectation. It feels as if Freeman overstayed his welcome and fans are tired of him.

No one would be surprised if Freeman doesn’t return to the team but who would be the person to take his place? They could do a running back by committee with Brian Hill, Ito Smith and Qadree Ollison which wouldn’t be a bad idea. The alternate is bringing in another running who still has tread on his tires.

There is a list of running backs who might not be with their current teams next year. Todd Gurley, Le’Veon Bell, and Melvin Gordon would cost too much. The Jaguars will do all they can to retain Leonard Fournette which leaves one big name out there that can come at a discount.

Cardinals running back David Johnson has become an afterthought in Arizona. The Cardinals traded for Kenyan Drake and he has made enough of an impact to become the guy in Arizona. They also found a gem in Chase Edmonds who has had his fair share of success this season which leaves Johnson as the third man out.

Johnson holds a cap value of $14.25 million dollars and if he does get cut by the Cardinals, the Falcons should be able to get him for pennies on the dollar. Adding Johnson would give the Falcons a Pro Bowl-caliber running back who can also help in the passing game as well.
