Three bold off-season moves for the Atlanta Falcons
By Joe Beasley
Atlanta Falcons fans everywhere were shocked when the Falcons decided to pick up Vic Beasley’s fifth-year option. People wanted Beasley gone and it got to the point where teams wouldn’t even trade a seventh-round pick to get the services of Beasley. Well, what a difference a few months make.
After the Falcons bye week, Beasley recorded 6.5 sacks and found himself in the opposing backfield anytime he wanted to. He became the Falcons best pass rusher and possibly even the most important defender on the team outside of Grady Jarrett.
Beasley was the one who probably made the play of the season on defense for the Atlanta Falcons. In the game against the Saints, he sacked Drew Brees on fourth down on a fourth-quarter drive that sucked the life and air out of the Mercedez-Benz Superdome.
For his second-half efforts, the Atlanta Falcons will bring back Beasley and it won’t be for just one year. The Falcons will bring back Beasley on a multi-year deal putting their faith in the edge rusher which could give him the confidence to play even better.
The Atlanta Falcons could still go after a pass rusher in the draft for insurance purposes but fans should expect Beasley to stick around for a few years and well….he’s earned it.
