Atlanta Falcons new uniforms will hopefully grow on fans
By Adam Zippan
The Atlanta Falcons new uniforms were officially unveiled today, after being leaked online yesterday.
The general consensus among Atlanta Falcons fans is that they are pretty mickey mouse and bush league. The new digs look like the combination of a team out of the XFL and/or Arena League.
There are eight different color combinations for the Atlanta Falcons new uniforms. The official home look features black jerseys and black pants, while the road look consists of a white jersey with white pants.
Throw in black pants, a gradient red jersey, red pants and the still slick-looking, fan-favorite retro black jerseys with white pants. Then there’s the new matte finish black helmet with a silver facemask. The Falcons logo on the helmet is 30 percent larger now, for some unknown reason.
Why increase the logo on the helmet when it was the ideal size previously? The ATL font on the front of all of the jerseys is too big and should have been made smaller. The font for the numbers on all of the jerseys is too large as well. The gradient red jersey is a horrible look the way it attempts to blend into the black pants.
The color-rush red gradient jersey looks like something that should only be donned in practice. And the red piping on all of the jerseys that extend down to the pants is also not a good look.
It remains to be seen as to how many times the Falcons will combine the black pants on the road with the white jerseys, or the red pants with the white jerseys. The Falcons for some reason love to only wear all white on the road. They should definitely be wearing black or red pants two to three times per season.
The Falcons had the perfect opportunity to design something clean and classy. The build-up, the anticipation, and excitement were huge. Letdown and disappointment are even bigger after today.
After two major disappointing, consecutive seasons of not making the playoffs, there is no excuse to not hit the mark and nail it with the new uniforms. This has been in the works for the past two years and this is what they deliver to fans. Arthur Blank will hear all of the negative feedback from the fans and media.
The fact of the matter is that these new uniforms are devoid of any sense of design, aesthetic or style. It took the Falcons 17 years to get with the times and introduce new digs after the old ones became very stale.
Hopefully, the Atlanta Falcons new uniforms won’t be around for another 17 years. Even more important is that they grow on the fans and become a top seller from a merchandising perspective
