Four free agents that the Atlanta Falcons missed out on
By Deen Worley
Logan Ryan – CB
Ever since the Atlanta Falcons announced they were parting ways with Desmond Trufant on June 1st, only a year after parting ways with Robert Alfred, the defensive secondary position has become the biggest hole on this team. With Damontae Kazee playing out of position and Isaiah Oliver seemingly a bust, the Atlanta Falcons failed to address this need by not adding veteran leadership to our cornerback groups.
Ryan had a very impressive 2019 season with 113 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles. No corner for Atlanta Falcons had more than 62 tackles and Oliver was the only corner to hit the quarterback once.
However, the Atlanta Falcons don’t send in corner blitzes as much. Ryan is better positioned in other the slot or the outside and with Kazee presumedly stepping back into the corner role, this would’ve left Ryan outside. Needless to say, Ryan would add tremendous talent to this team even with his occasional blunder to give up big plays deep.
Ryan is currently sitting on the open market mainly due to his high wage demands of “no less than $10 million a year”. That is just over what he was being paid in Tennessee. The Atlanta Falcons would probably be forced to drop others if they wanted Ryan.
