Atlanta Falcons newest acquisitions ranked by excitement level
4. A.J. Terrell – Defensive back – Clemson University
- How acquired: 2020 NFL draft – 1st round
- Excitement level: High
Many people were highly upset with this draft pick, but A.J. Terrell is going to shock a lot of people as a rookie in 2020.
He showed in college how good he is helping Clemson play for two straight national titles and making the College Football Playoff’s all three years he was there. Even the “bad game” against LSU was not nearly as bad as it was made out to be as he had near-perfect coverage all night.
A hometown kid that is excited to be in Atlanta, who isn’t excited to watch someone that truly wants to be here and play with the Falcons?
3. Marlon Davidson – Defensive line – Auburn University
- How acquired: 2020 NFL draft – 2nd round
- Excitement level: High
"“That is really the best moment about ball, is to go out there and really abuse somebody, and then they won’t say nothing about it in the press or anything. It ain’t on no headlines, no handcuffs, no mugshots, no nothing. I’m out here just physically abusing a man.”"
Every fan should be excited about a player that has that thought process when it comes to football.
All-Pro Grady Jarrett needs a running mate and someone that will help take the Atlanta Falcons pass rush to the next level and Marlon Davidson is the guy to do just that. He will provide a lot of depth and will win over the locker room and fans immediately.
2. Hayden Hurst – Tight end – University of South Carolina
- How acquired: trade
- Excitement level: High
"“He is for sure one of the fastest and most athletic tight ends I’ve ever played with,” Ryan said. “He’s a mismatch problem, he’s going to create separation and win in different ways than those guys did.”"
That statement alone from Matt Ryan should have everyone excited to see Hayden Hurst in a Falcons uniform. He is going to have a big year for the Falcons and will help this offense hit another level we have not seen since 2016.
1. Dante Fowler Jr.– Defensive end – University of Florida
- How acquired: 2020 free agency
- Excitement level: High
Just like we said about Marlon Davidson, adding a piece like Fowler to the Atlanta Falcons pass rush is something that we should all be excited about.
The Falcons have not had 40 sacks in a season as a team in almost 20 years and adding a grown man like Dante Fowler, will help the Falcons reach that point in 2020. We saw in 2019 what Fowler can do when he works next to a dominant defensive tackle and he will be working beside the second-best defensive tackle in the game.
While Grady isn’t Aaron Donald, he is among the leagues best and will help Fowler replicate the success he had in 2019 with the Rams for the Falcons in 2020.
With all the pieces that the Atlanta Falcons added to the defense this offseason, they should jump into the Top 10 in both total defense and scoring defense for just the fourth time since Matt Ryan arrived in 2008.
