Matt Ryan was higher than expected as Madden 21 released more of their player rankings.

Madden has released its top 10 quarterback ratings for this year’s game and the list features Atlanta Falcon Matt Ryan. Matty Ice is rated 87 overall, giving him the number seven spot. And Madden raters actually got it right this time.

Let’s get this out the way. If you wanted to gripe, just for the hell of it you could argue that Matt Ryan deserves to be rated an 88, sure. What does that one point get you? Not much. But in the grand scheme of things, he’s right where he should be. Patrick Mahomes is the only 99 and well, who didn’t see that coming.

The man just signed a 10 year, $503 million deal.

Naturally, he’s followed by Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson, who’s the cover athlete. All three are dual-threat quarterbacks. The others ahead of Matt Ryan? Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers. In fact, out of the top seven, Ryan is the only one to have thrown double-digit interceptions last year with 14. The next closest? Tom Brady, with eight.

Secondly, Matt Ryan is ranked above Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, and Carson Wentz as he should be. He’s a better quarterback than those guys. Don’t let the recent excitement fool you.

Yes, Watson can make plays but he hasn’t won anything and with the team he has going into this year, we’ll see what he’s really made of. Dak Prescott hasn’t either but wants Mahomes type money and Carson Wentz couldn’t stay healthy if his job depended on it. (Which it does).

Matt Ryan won’t be the highest rated Falcons player on Madden 21.

With an 87 overall, Ryan can still ball in Madden. Hop into franchise mode and you’ve got a guy that can win a Super Bowl. Or even if you play online, Ryan is a guy who can make all the throws necessarily.

Also, there’s no doubt that Julio will be ranked at least a 98. That’s a vicious duo for any gameplay. Keep in mind though, it is just a video game. It tends toward freak athletes like Jackson and Mahomes. It’s the Steph Curry phenomenon.

Curry was hitting threes from so deep and at such a high clip, 2K developers couldn’t keep up. Jackson will be like Michael Vick on Madden 2004. He and Mahomes will be fun to play with, period. But if you want to build a team and want a solid mainstay quarterback Matt Ryan is just that guy. His rating follows the real-life discussion.

Not quite Drew Brees or Rodgers level, and Tom Brady is the GOAT, he will always be at least a 90 on video games just out of respect.

dark. Next. Falcons offense needs to incorporate much more pre-snap motion

But in real life, don’t get blinded by recency. Lamar may be exciting, but Ryan has done more and has proven his standing in the NFL among the elites. Though, it’ll be interesting to see what Brees’ awareness is, considering his still misguided comments on “Black Lives Matter” protests. Ryan’s should be a 97 at least and that guy from New Orleans, eh, rate him at a (19) 64.
