The Atlanta Falcons are set to be much improved along the defensive line in 2020.

This may sound like a broken record to longtime Atlanta Falcons fans but if the thought of Grady Jarrett and rookie Marlon Davidson working in tandem on the defensive line doesn’t get you excited, nothing will when it comes to the Atlanta Falcons.

This is a dream pairing that teams aim for upfront. Two gigantic, strong, athletic, high football IQ defensive tackles that will complement each other and help open up pass-rushing lanes and opportunities for Dante Fowler and Takk McKinley.

When you look across the NFL, there aren’t a lot of teams that have defensive tackle duos that have the potential that Jarrett and Davidson have. The Philadelphia Eagles duo of Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham come to mind but other than them, there are great singular defensive tackles across the league, but no other duo that will wreak havoc in the middle.

Atlanta Falcons defensive line will be among the best in the league in 2020.

While Marlon Davidson is still very much raw and unknown, we know what we saw from him at Auburn paired with a dominant defensive tackle in Derrick Brown. They were by far the best defensive tackle duo in college football and the biggest reason Auburn had success limiting the potent LSU offense in 2019.

Not having a full NFL offseason with rookie mini, minicamp, organized team activities, and a full training camp may hinder Davidson’s full potential early in the season, but by the midway point, we should see an explosion from him as he learns and observes more from Grady Jarrett.

Grady Jarrett has gotten better every season in the NFL and given the transformation he made to his body this offseason, there is very little reason to believe that he will not have a year that Atlanta Falcons defensive tackles have never had. He will be an All-Pro selection this season and the Falcons will be the beneficiary.

The Atlanta Falcons have not achieved 40 sacks in a season since 2004. The revamped defensive line that not only features Jarrett and Davidson but also has Fowler, as well as a re-designed Takk McKinley, should be able to come close to that mark in 2020.
