Asante Samuel and Asante Samuel Jr.

Asante Samuel‘s son, Asante Samuel Jr., is a junior who plays cornerback for the Florida State Seminoles. He’s eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft if he chooses to declare.

If you managed to catch any of the FSU vs Georgia Tech game in September (don’t worry – I won’t blame you if you didn’t) then you’d have been forgiven for a double-take when a cornerback with “Samuel” on the back of his jersey calmly read the quarterback’s eyes, stepped across and intercepted a ball that looked as if it was deliberately thrown to him. And then went ahead and did it a second time for good measure.

This wasn’t the four-time Pro Bowler with a pair of Super Bowl rings who led the NFL in interceptions in two separate seasons, though. This was his son. Asante Samuel Jr. looks to have the same ball-hawking skills and mentality that his father did.

Focusing so much on the quarterback can leave vulnerabilities in coverage but turnovers change games and he’ll produce those.
