The Atlanta Falcons will be facing a team in the Lions that are nearly identical.

When you hear NFL media compare quarterbacks, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford always seem to be compared to one another. Both quarterbacks have had an elite receiver during their career and multiple head coaches that have ruined their Hall of Fame pathways and both are the best quarterbacks in their franchise’s history.

Both teams are coming off back to back losing seasons after having winning seasons in 2016 and 2017.

This year, their two franchises are nearly identical.

Both have multiple losses after leading by two or more touchdowns. Both have a four-point loss to the Chicago Bears and both have a multi-touchdown loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Then you look at these two teams and it will essentially be strength versus strength and weakness versus weakness on Sunday when these two teams kickoff – though the Falcons offense is much better than the Lions defense than the Lions offense is when compared to the Falcons defense.

The Atlanta Falcons have one of the best offenses in the NFL, averaging more than 400 yards per game (4th in the NFL) and 27 points. The Lions defense is giving up nearly identical numbers to opposing offenses and yet are somehow better than the Lions offense.

The Lions offense is averaging a measly 346 yards a game, which is 24th overall in the NFL. As we know the Atlanta Falcons defense is the worst in the NFL and will surely make Stafford and the Lions look better than they are.

Atlanta Falcons fans as well as NFL people across the country paid no attention after they beat the lowly Minnesota Vikings in week six and they probably won’t pay much attention after the Falcons beat the Lions in week seven.

Next. The ‘Falcons filter’ should finally be retired. dark

It is really hard to get excited over two bad teams that aren’t headed toward the playoffs, especially when one has already fired its head coach and the other is probably headed in that direction. But that is what we will attempt to do Sunday afternoon.
