The Atlanta Falcons should go ahead and cross this name off the board

The Atlanta Falcons are in the midst of beginning a coaching search to replace Dan Quinn and one popular name should go ahead and be crossed off the board.

The Falcons chose to part ways from Quinn close to two months ago and the franchise is gearing up to make a decision on what names to pursue following the end of the 2020 season.

While Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich has been a popular name among analysts covering the Atlanta Falcons, he simply doesn’t make sense if the goal of the franchise is to move forward and actually become competitive.

Leftwich is struggling with a ton of talent and pieces in Tampa, what makes anyone think he’d be a successful head coach for the Atlanta Falcons?

Leftwich is considered a ‘coach on the rise’ by many around the league and it seems like it will just be a matter of time before he gets a shot at a head coaching position, but it shouldn’t be with the Falcons.

Leftwich spent some time with the Arizona Cardinals coaching quarterbacks and was an interim offensive coordinator before he eventually found his way to the Bucs in 2019 as he followed Bruce Arians.

Anyone who has kept up with that situation, though, knows just how it has turned out.

Leftwich has a ton of talent on his offense- names like Tom Brady, Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski, to name just a few- and they are struggling mightily. He did have an explosive offense the year before, but that was with the leadership of a turnover-prone Jameis Winston.

Now, without Winston and a difference system QB in Brady, he has yet to adjust and the Bucs are struggling because of it.

It’d be one thing if Leftwich was passing all his early tests with flying colors, but we’re talking about a guy who has only had a couple of years of experience in coaching and there has been troubles along the way.

This franchise chose to move on from Dan Quinn for a reason. They’re tired of sitting in purgatory. Well, Byron Leftwich as a coach almost screams the very definition of ‘purgatory.’

Next. Matt Ryan becoming an outdated quarterback. dark

That’s one name off the list for the Atlanta Falcons. Who’s next?
