Atlanta Falcons have their eyes set on their next GM target

The Atlanta Falcons have two major positions to fill over the course of the next few months and they’re reportedly zeroing in on a candidate for the vacant GM spot.

The Falcons fired GM Thomas Dimitroff and Head Coach Dan Quinn earlier this fall and the franchise is now in the midst of looking to fill those roles, starting most likely with the general manager.

There have reportedly been two names emerge as the potential favorites to land the job and one of them is set to have an interview in the near future, according to reports by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The Falcons have shown interest in Louis Reddick- the former Eagles director of pro personnel- but another name emerged Tuesday evening that would make a lot more sense: Saints VP Terry Fontenot.

Fontenot is a proven winner who could potentially turn the Falcons around

Fontenot has been with the Saints for nearly two decades and has played a key role over the years in bringing in several notable free agents, including names like Demario Davis, Larry Warford and Emmanuel Sanders.

Falcons Wire also reported that Fontenot was selected by New Orleans to attend the “Stanford Business School’s Executive Education NFL-Stanford Program for Managers.” This program is highly regarded by the league and is a sign of a potential up-and-coming general manager.

When you’ve been with an organization like the Saints for so long, you know what it means to consistently get to the playoffs and compete. Fontenot has been successful in getting talent into that franchise and he has been an instrumental piece in getting the Saints the pieces they’ve needed to become perennial contenders.

That’s exactly what the Falcons need.

This name and pairing makes sense in a lot of ways and Fontenot checks a lot of the boxes that fans should be hoping for in the new GM.

The ultimate goal of this franchise is to become a postseason contender year-in and year-out that can successful lure free agents and scout talent in the draft. If that’s what you want to become, there are plenty of signs that show Fontenot can take you there.
