If 2020 was a football team, it would be the Atlanta Falcons

If 2020 was a football team, it would be the Atlanta Falcons.
The Atlanta Falcons have gone through one of the toughest and most disappointing seasons in recent memory.
Fans had a lot of hope coming into the 2020 offseason after the way the Falcons finished last season on a high. However, once the season started, it looked as if nothing changed. If there was a way to lose, this year’s Falcons team has found a way whether it was by not covering an onside kick or simply playing defense for 60 seconds.
Let’s face it, if 2020 was a football team, it would be the Atlanta Falcons.
The Atlanta Falcons, like the year 2020, was plagued by a dangerous virus. That virus was the tenure of Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff. Those two wasted the prime years of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones and the franchise will take years to recover.
Yes, they were both present the last time the Falcons made it to the Super Bowl, but with everything that’s happened, that accomplishment seems like ages ago. Questionable draft picks, questionable free-agent signings, and questionable coaching decisions have plagued this team for the past few seasons and these two are the main ones that should be held responsible.
Arthur Blank finally came to his senses and cut ties with Quinn and Dimitroff. He then placed Raheem Morris at the helm and has done the best job he can with what he has available to him.
The Atlanta Falcons are 4-3 under Morris and it could be better except for the fact that part of that virus remains on the coaching staff.
Dan Quinn doomed himself when he decided to bring back Dirk Koetter.
Sadly, Morris repeated that same mistake. Remember when he took over after Week 5, Blank told everyone that Morris had carte blanche with the coaching staff and team direction and instead of firing Koetter, he took his aim at special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica.
Looking at the offense week in and week out and you can tell this offense hasn’t changed or been modified since Koetter was the offensive coordinator all the way back in 2012-2014.
People can make all the jokes they want about the defense; they can talk trash about how Matt Ryan is holding the offense back but if you watched the game last week against the Saints, you could see that this offensive game plan isn’t going to work on any level.
Just like 2020, things started to look like they were about to turn around for the Falcons especially after the way that Falcons handled the Raiders, but it was all a façade.
The 2020 Atlanta Falcons season has been a waste, a total disaster, and a year that players and fans alike will love to forget- just like the year has been for the rest of the world.
