Will Atlanta Falcons owner Author Blank ignore the talk about Eric Bieniemy?

The Atlanta Falcons filter has been a real thing since the Michael Vick debacle more than a decade ago and the organization has refused to even consider players that have checkered pasts.

While fan bases for bad teams all over the league are clamoring for Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, there seem to be several reasons that he has yet to get a head coaching gig according to many big-name media people around the league.

Is Arthur Blank going to throw his checklist aside in order to appease the Atlanta Falcons fan base?

According to Ben Allbright, there are several reasons that Bieniemy has yet to get an NFL head coaching job and he has reiterated several reasons that have been talked about for a couple years now – he isn’t an actual play-caller, he doesn’t interview well and there are questions about his past.

While the play calling stuff and interview issues aren’t something that bothers me – the checkered history of issues is something that Arthur Blank may take issue with. If he won’t allow players in his locker room that have had prior character issues – how can he overlook that stuff when hiring the man that will lead the men in the locker room?

By all accounts, Bieniemy had no issues during his NFL playing career, and issues that he had in high school and college should never be brought up – no adult should be judged by garbage we did between the ages of 15-25.

However, the issues he had post-NFL playing career – as a coach are what Arthur Blank may take issue with. Things like assaulting women, sexual misconduct, etc – all of these are easily found via google. It is not my place to judge given, as all of you, I don’t know the circumstances that led to any of those events.

I am also not advocating that he not be the next Atlanta Falcons head coach, all I am simply asking is if the owner of the franchise is going to be willing to do something he has never done before and brought a person with major character flaws in his not so distant past?

Eric Bieniemy can be the key to removing the long-held Falcons filter.

If Blank is willing to overlook those flaws and believes that Eric Bieniemy is in fact a different person, will that open up the roster to possibly take on players that have had past issues, seemingly move past them, and be given a second chance?

We all know football is a very violent game and it takes a special person to be able to play the games at the NFL level given that violence and at times there are guys that have a hard time turning that off. No one is perfect and everyone deserves a second chance and maybe opening the locker room back up to those type of players may end up being the best course of action for a franchise that has not yet lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

No one is saying the Atlanta Falcons need to become a halfway house for NFL misfits but if there is a player or two that can help you win that have had prior issues, Bieniemy has a chance to show Blank that good guys make mistakes and can still turn everything around and be productive.
