Change of quarterback should be in order for the Atlanta Falcons.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback and future Hall of Famer Matt Ryan should take the next three weeks off. Yes, he played terribly on Sunday and there are some fans that are ready to move on completely but at this point, he has nothing to play for the rest of the year, so it’s time to see what others can do.

The next Atlanta Falcons general manager and head coach aren’t going to get rid of Matt Ryan – it would handicap the franchise for the next couple of years. When you have a player of his stature and standing, there is no reason to handcuff your salary cap just because he is old.

However, it is time to see what the young Kurt Benkert can do.

Matt Schaub has had his time in the league as a starter and his career is over, so there is no point in running him out there – but we have seen very little from Benkert since the Falcons signed him as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Virginia back in 2018.

By no means would his playing start a quarterback controversy in Atlanta but it would give many the opportunity to assess the backup quarterback position within the organization and whether or not that is something that they will need to be addressed this offseason.

Atlanta Falcons have nothing left to play for in 2020.

No one should be under any delusion that the Atlanta Falcons will win any of their final three remaining games. Both the Chiefs and Buccaneers are fighting for playoff positioning and losing to the Atlanta Falcons could determine whether they are home or away during the playoffs.

Since the Atlanta Falcons have nothing left to actually play for, other than the part of the spoiler, why not let another young player get some time on the field and allow for a player in his mid-30s to rest and get a jump start on 2021 offseason?

It wouldn’t be the first time that an organization with nothing left to play for has simply put younger guys on the field and there is no good reason that the Falcons should not in 2020.
