Atlanta Falcons should stay as far away from this quarterback as possible

The Atlanta Falcons have a legitimate chance at a top-five pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but there is one name they should stay as far away from as possible.

The Falcons lost yet another game this past weekend, this time a 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, to fall to 4-9 on the season.

With the loss, Atlanta is currently anywhere between 4-7 in terms of draft order and the franchise has a major opportunity to get inside the top-five with its three final games coming against the Chiefs and two matchups with the Buccaneers.

Though many Atlanta Falcons fans want to move on from Matt Ryan and think that a top-five pick is the perfect opportunity to draft the next gamechanger, the Falcons need to stay away from QB Justin Fields at all costs.

There is nothing worse the Atlanta Falcons could do than draft Justin Fields with a top-five pick

Fields has looked good at times over the course of his collegiate career, but anyone that has watched him this season or even throughout his career knows that he’s not a top-five talent.

There are many out there that believe he could be a bust and that’s certainly not the chance you want to take if you’re the Atlanta Falcons trying to get back in the playoff hunt.

It’s not like a Trevor Lawrence where you know what you’re getting. Fields could turn into a transcendent talent, but more than anything he looks like the type of QB that projects well by analysts and simply never turns out to make any impact at the next level.

That may hurt a lot of Falcons fans who are begging for a replacement for Matt Ryan, but it’s just the truth.

Fields is playing against slow Big Ten defenses with tons of NFL talent around him- including first-round wide receivers and offensive linemen. Do you know how may quarterbacks from the Big Ten are currently starters in today’s NFL? The answer is three: Tom Brady (Michigan more than two decades ago), Russell Wilson (who played in the ACC, as well) and Kirk Cousins (Michigan State, who we all know isn’t really a starter-level QB in the NFL).

The best thing we could see the Falcons do with a top-five pick is to focus in on finding an elite pass-rusher or linebacker. A guy like Micah Parsons fits the bill perfectly.

dark. Next. 5 Falcons who should not return in 2021

The Falcons have some major decisions to make this offseason- and they may very well take a quarterback when it’s all said and done- but they need to stay as far away as possible from Justin Fields.
