Wendell Brown – Varsity Blues

One of the best fictional high school running backs in movie history. He didn’t get a lot of love because the movie was about a backup quarterback with a terrible southern accent and a weird throwing motion.

However, Wendell was a damn workhorse. He carried the West Canaan Coyotes up and down the field and was a huge part of their success even if his touchdown numbers didn’t reflect that – although we all know why.

Wendall showed throughout the early part of the movie that not only was he an elite runner but he was also a devastating pass blocker for both Mox and Lance Harbor.

In real life, Wendell Brown was portrayed by Eliel Swinton who played college football at Stanford and was a starting safety there in the mid-90s. After an injury suffered during the preseason with the Chiefs derailed his real NFL career, there is no doubt that the character Wendell Brown would also be a much better running back than Gurley, Smith, or Hill.
