The Atlanta Falcons owe a lot to quarterback Matt Ryan.

While some of the fans have grown tired of Matt Ryan, no one can argue against everything he has done for this franchise. The Falcons have experienced the most successful ever as a franchise with Ryan at the helm.

Ryan has two NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl appearance to his name. The passing records section of the Atlanta Falcons history book might as well get named after Ryan.

After all, Ryan has given to this franchise, playing through some of the worst coaching decisions you can think of, Ryan has been able to stay productive. Now Dan Quinn is gone and the horror that is known as Dirk Koetter will not be calling plays for the Falcons next year, maybe fans can ease up on trying to get rid of Matt Ryan and give him one more chance.

The Atlanta Falcons have seen what Ryan is capable of when his offense is healthy, and he has a competent coach calling plays.

In 2016, his MVP season and with Kyle Shanahan calling the play, Ryan put up 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns and had a passer rating of 117.1. In 2018, with no running game to speak of, Ryan put up nearly the same numbers he put up in his MVP season; 4,924 yards, 35 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 108.1.

The talent and production are still there, Matt Ryan just needs a little help.

The Atlanta Falcons now find themselves in a difficult position. Since the Jets choked away their chance at Trevor Lawrence, there are some people who think that the Jets will decide to stick with Sam Darnold and go another direction in the draft.

This could leave the Falcons with a chance to draft Justin Fields in 2021. While this writer isn’t against making the selection, there are other issues the Falcons can address early in the first round or trade down to get more draft picks.

The Atlanta Falcons shouldn’t force Ryan out the door. Ryan is the type of player that will know when it’s time to step down and step away for this team to be the best it can be. Give Ryan one more shot with a GM that’s going to put the right pieces in place, and a formidable head coach and offensive coordinator.

If he doesn’t get better or show signs he can produce in this league with new leadership, then all bets are off, and it’s time to part ways with the greatest Falcon of all time.
