There are actual Atlanta Falcons fans who want Matthew Stafford
There are Atlanta Falcons fans living among us that simply don’t fit the mold. They are on a different wave length from the rest of us and must have secret knowledge unavailable to the common man. They rationalize in a way we could never fathom and they look at the world from a very different perspective.
These are their stories.
There’s a contingent of the Atlanta Falcons fan base that is unhappy with the results and performances from Matt Ryan the past couple of season. Those fans aren’t hard to find.
However, there’s a group that takes ‘Ryan hating’ to an extreme unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Believe it or not, a small portion of the fan base would rather have had Matthew Stafford than Matt Ryan.
Of course, we all knew that wasn’t going to work out from the start. The Falcons weren’t going to offer up potential trade packages for Stafford and, instead, the Detroit Lions QB is heading to Los Angeles after the Rams gave up Jared Goff and a whole host of draft picks- including two future first-rounders- to get the aging quarterback.
Yikes. The Atlanta Falcons would’ve been better off blowing their franchise into oblivion than pursuing Matthew Stafford
We understand that this sentiment is not running rampant within the fan base, but it does need to be addressed: Matthew Stafford is not an upgrade to Matt Ryan in any world.
There is a group of trolls who probably only post to start conflict, but there has been a group of Atlanta Falcons fans for more than just this offseason talk about Stafford in glowing terms and almost daydream over the prospect of him being a Falcon.
It’s understandable that UGA fans would want to see their former Bulldog ‘come home,’ but let’s stop pretending like that would actually help the franchise in anyway.
Matt Ryan is not the problem. We’re not saying he’s been perfect, but he certainly still has the ability to get the job done with the right cast around him. Stafford, on the other hand, has never won a playoff game.
In the end, it’s all a moot point. We all knew that the Falcons were never going to trade for Stafford to begin with and the Rams now are stuck without a first-round pick for a few more years as they gave up plenty of future capital to land the quarterback who is past his prime.
