NFL insiders confirmed Matt Ryan will be in Atlanta for 2021.

The Atlanta Falcons have been in the news with rumors of them possibly moving on from Matt Ryan.

It seems as if that rumor was put to rest.

The Atlanta Falcons have also decided to keep Julio Jones as well which is the right move for this team. The Falcons are not in need of a complete teardown and rebuild at least not yet.

Ryan has been the focal point of everything that is wrong with this franchise by certain fans. We can go look at the numbers that Matt Ryan has put up over his career but there are people that will call those numbers “empty calories.”

Why don’t we take a look at what’s around him?

Ryan has been sacked 374 total times since 2010, in the last three years in which he was sacked more than 40 times each season.

Some of those sacks and be attributed to the fact that he holds the ball for too long, but when you have a defense with more holes than swiss cheese, sometimes it’s just best to take the sack and avoid a costly turnover.

Matt Ryan was not helped by Dan Quinn’s defense.

Speaking of defense, the last three years, this Atlanta Falcons defense has been in the bottom third of the NFL. While the defense did show signs at the end of the last two seasons, it turns out those were just a flash in the pan and but not consistent enough for this team to be successful no matter what Ryan does.

The Falcons haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Devonta Freeman. It’s not like defenses are stacking the box against this team. A combination of lackluster running back play, an offensive line that can’t seem to open running lane, and the atrocious play-calling of Dirk Koetter can be contributed to that.

The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported this on Tuesday about the Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan –

"Yes, Ryan is paid a lot to deliver wins but he can’t do it all himself. Getting rid of Ryan won’t guarantee that this team will all of a sudden be successful. Trading Ryan and drafting a young quarterback won’t be the answer and solve all the problems on the team. Instead of the fans being hellbent on the Falcons getting rid of Ryan and drafting a new shiny toy to play with, they can address the bigger issues on this team like who’s going to run the ball or get after the quarterback."

Give Matt Ryan a year with this system and hope that Arthur Smith and the front office can do something with this roster and put the right tools in place. Every quarterback needs these tools to be successful and win games, so why treat Ryan any different?
