Way-too-early 2022 Super Bowl odds for the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have already made some big moves this 2021 offseason with the hiring of Arthur Smith as the next head coach and Terry Fontenot as the next general manager.

With those two at the helm and a breath of fresh air in the front-office as well as on the coaching staff, there is hope resonating from Atlanta Falcons fans that things might finally begin to swing in their favor after three disappointing seasons.

While the odds aren’t in their favor, we’ve already seen one franchise rise out of a pit of disappointment when we saw NFC South Divisional rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers win the Super Bowl this season. The Bucs had missed 12-straight playoffs before this season.

Could the Atlanta Falcons turn it around and walk away as champions in 2021?

If you’re looking for the Falcons to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy this season, there are clearly going to be a lot of changes made this offseason.

Here’s a look at the favorites to win the Super Bowl next season (according to CBS):

  • Kansas City Chiefs +550
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +900
  • Green Bay Packers +900
  • Baltimore Ravens +1200
  • Buffalo Bills +1200
  • Los Angeles Rams +1300
  • San Francisco 49ers +1400

So, where do the Falcons fall on this list? Currently, Atlanta sits at +6000 odds, which is tied with the Panthers, Washington Football Team and Broncos.

Sadly enough, there are only six teams that have worse odds than the Falcons: Jaguars (+7500), Giants (+7500), Bengals (+8000), Lions (+10000), Jets (+10000) and Texans (+10000).

There is going to have to be a major turnaround- and hiring Smith & Fontenot was a nice start- for this franchise to become competitive again. They’ll be picked to finish third and potentially even fourth in the NFC South next season and it’s certainly going to be an uphill battle for this team.

That doesn’t mean it can’t be done, but the odds certainly reflect how much is stacked against them heading into the offseason.
