NFL Draft analyst has Atlanta Falcons taking TE with No. 4 overall pick

The Atlanta Falcons have had the widest array of selections in 2021 NFL Mock Drafts of any team inside the top-10 and those differences continue to show themselves.

If you’re a Falcons fan, you’ve probably seen 10 different mock drafts with 10 different selections so far and we’re not even through the month of February yet. Now, in the latest mock draft, there’s another pick for Atlanta that will have fans talking.

The Draft Scout’s Matt Miller released his top-four picks in his first mock draft and the first aren’t too surprising with the Jaguars taking Trevor Lawrence, the Jets taking Zach Wilson and the Dolphins taking Ja’Marr Chase.

However, the pick for the Atlanta Falcons might have some scratching their heads.

Miller has the Atlanta Falcons taking Florida TE Kyle Pitts with the fourth overall pick.

There’s no doubt that Pitts is a game-changing tight end. He has the ability to become the best tight end in the league in short order, in my opinion.

Anyone who watched him play at Florida can see his dominance and knows that he will be taken early in the first-round.

That being said, this is a pick that you just can’t afford to make if you’re the Atlanta Falcons.

At first glance, we’d love to see Pitts paired with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. It would be an extremely dangerous group and would make that Falcons offense instantly better. But you can’t make that pick with the No. 4 overall selection.

It would be one thing if the Falcons were playing with house money- similar to the Dolphins- and were just drafting that high because of a trade or something of that nature, but you’re talking about a team that went 4-12 last season.

Is a tight end going to turn the franchise around? The answer is no.

When you have major needs at important positions like the Falcons do, you can’t use your first-round pick- a top-five pick- on a tight end when you could select a key defensive player, an offensive lineman or even your future franchise quarterback.

It has nothing to do with Pitts and everything to do with the Falcons as to why that just won’t work.
