Atlanta Falcons are participating in Trevor Lawrence’s Pro Day

The presumptive No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft will throw for the Atlanta Falcons and many more NFL teams on Friday.

Trevor Lawrence- who is expected to be taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 1 overall pick later this spring- will host his own Pro Day at Clemson this Friday where he’ll throw for NFL scouts. Lawrence is having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is using this  Pro Day as a way to help him be able to go ahead and have the surgery, rather than wait. As a result, he is expected to be back before Training Camp.

What’s interesting is when this was first announced, there was a list of initial teams identified by The Clemson Insider that would be participating in Lawrence’s Pro Day: The Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons. The expectation is that many more franchises will be represented, as well.

The Atlanta Falcons are watching Lawrence, but that’s as close as they’ll get to nabbing the top prospect

If your hope is that the Falcons will somehow reel off a blockbuster trade to land the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, I think you’re sadly mistaken.

The Jaguars are looking for a quarterback and they’ve got a potential franchise-changer in Lawrence to pair with their new coach Urban Meyer.

A trade to get that No. 1 pick would likely cost the Falcons several picks in this year’s draft and future first-rounders. That’s simply not going to happen.

The Falcons are simply doing their due diligence and scoping out Lawrence’s arm talent, but that’s as close as they’ll get to the elite prospect and they’ll have to keep looking to find the successor to Matt Ryan.
