Kyle Pitts would make the Atlanta Falcons elite in the red-zone

Will the Atlanta Falcons draft the best tight end in the 2021 draft class?

The 2021 offseason is underway and there is a lot of speculation of what the Atlanta Falcons will do in the 2021 NFL Draft. One player the Atlanta Falcons should look at is Florida tight end, Kyle Pitts.

Pitts has been a touchdown machine for the Florida Gators this past season catching twelve touchdowns and had 770 yards in eight games. Kyle Pitts was so dominant this past season that he helped his quarterback Kyle Trask finish fourth in Heisman voting behind DeVonta Smith, Trevor Lawrence, and Mac Jones.

Matter of fact, if you watched the Cotton Bowl this year, you saw how ad Kyle Trask looked without his star playmaker. That is the type of ability that he has at the tight end position. While Pitts will never be a complete tight end like Gronk, he will eventually break all the records set by Cheifs tight end Travis Kelce.

The Atlanta Falcons red-zone offense was terrible in the 2020 NFL season under offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter finishing 26th in red-zone efficiency.

An offense with Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Hayden Hurst, Todd Gurley, and Russell Gage should never be in the bottom half of the league in red-zone efficiency.

Arthur Smith’s coaching alone should make them more efficient in the red-zone and adding a touchdown machine-like Kyle Pitts could make them elite in that area.

Kyle Pitts makes the Atlanta Falcons an elite red-zone team.

Julio Jones is going to continue to command double teams every time the Falcons get to that part of the field while Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage will continue to be the benefactors with the amount of attention Julio receives.

If the Atlanta Falcons added Kyle Pitts it would create more mismatches with linebackers and safeties. When defenses start focusing on Pitts it would create more opportunities in the red-zone for Julio Jones and his touchdown numbers will start to go through the roof.

Unfortunately for the Atlanta Falcons if they were going to draft Kyle Pitts it would have to be in the first round and the fourth overall pick would be too high for Pitts, though trading down would be an ideal scenario and something many fans are clamoring over.

His Florida pro-day will go a long way in determining his draft stock. He is a Top 10 pick and one of the elite playmakers in this draft but will he perform well enough to jump into the Top 5 is a question that the Falcons will look to answer here in the near future.

Hayden Hurst is potentially entering a contract year should the Atlanta Falcons decide not to pick up his fifth-year option.

Hurst will be 28-years old when the 2021 season starts and having a young explosive tight end will be a future need. There is no doubt that the Falcons would have a stud tight end for the next ten years if they draft Kyle Pitts.
