Here’s how this phone call would go:

*Patrick Peterson picks up his phone and says: ‘Hello’*

‘Hey Patrick, this is Arthur Blank with the Atlanta Falcons’… [buzzing line on the other end]

Though he likely won’t make as much as he is wanting, Patrick Peterson is going to look to get paid and Spotrac estimates his market value at around $10.4 million per year. The Falcons simply can’t afford that with the contracts they already have on the books.

Just like J.J. Watt, though, you have to do your due diligence.

Contracts can be restructured and things can be moved around to keep your team under the cap and Terry Fontenot is going to be tasked with maneuvering through some bad deals to make things work.

If he can, who’s to say the Falcons couldn’t at least scrape up enough to make a decent offer to a player of Peterson’s caliber? It’s not likely, but it’s not out of the question and that’s why the phone call has to at least be made simply to gauge interest.

Next. Falcons would love J.J. Watt, they'll get Dante Fowler Jr.. dark
