  • Restructure Savings: $8 million

Some Falcons fans would just rather assume move on from Jake Matthews, but his experience at the left tackle position is something that we shouldn’t take lightly.

Matthews isn’t the best left tackle in the league, but he has been solid during his time and he’s a guy that (for better or for worse) seems locked up here, at least for the time being.

Restructuring Matthews’ contract would save around $8 million and the Falcons have two more years- 2022 & 2023- to divide that money up over.

If you think the Falcons should trade Matthews, this wouldn’t matter too much, but if you believe he’s going to be here for at least the next two seasons, it’s something that absolutely has to be done to free up room for other moves.
