1. Matt Ryan

  • Restructure Savings: $14.6 million

Many don’t like the idea of kicking the can down the road with Matt Ryan and that’s understandable.

There’s a contingent of Atlanta Falcons fans who are ready for the franchise to move away from him altogether, but you’ve got to play the hand that you’re dealt and his contract just doesn’t play in the Falcons favor in that case.

Ryan is already slated to $40.9 million this year, but restructuring his deal could save nearly $15 million on this current salary cap and would give the Falcons much-needed flexibility in building around him.

That’s the key, though.

If you restructure a contract like this, you’re going to have to build around Ryan for the next three seasons (2021, 2022 & 2023). There is no moving on and you’re putting the life of your franchise in his hands.

Next. Falcons need to get Grady Jarrett a running mate. dark

It’s not likely that the Falcons make all five of these moves simply because of the strain they would place on future caps, but you’ve got to realize that restructures have to be done to make this year’s budget work and these are the five most likely moves they’ll consider and it is possible that all five get done.
