Matt Ryan should play both ways in 2021

Matt Ryan is the clear answer for the Atlanta Falcons defense.

Atlanta Falcons fans have been very vocal the last few days as the team didn’t engage in any legal tampering and has made just one trade for a blocking tight end and allegedly came to an agreement with former Raiders captain, safety Eric Harris.

General Manager Terry Fontenot and head coach Arthur Smith should listen to the crazies on social media and let quarterback Matt Ryan play both ways in 2021.

Hundreds of fans continue to blame Matt Ryan for the team’s position both on the field and in regards to the team’s salary cap issues. He continues to be called every name you can think of and is blamed because of the moves that former general manager Thomas Dimitroff made.

It is Matt’s fault that they signed guys like Dante Fowler Jr. to an absurd number last season. It is Matt’s fault that the team didn’t draft well or signed guys that had zero work ethics. It is Matt’s fault that Dan Quinn spent more time preparing his post-game clichés than he spent on the weekly game plan.

Because the current issues with the roster are all Matt’s fault, he should pick up the slack and play both ways.

The last NFL player to play both ways was Chuck Bednarik, who retired in 1962 and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. He is considered one of the game’s greatest.

Sure, he has no experience on defense and doesn’t fit the mold for any position on that side of the ball but that hasn’t stopped fans from blaming him for the defensive issues this team has had for the majority of the last decade.

Hell, he still gets the blame because the defense allowed Tom Brady to throw for a trillion yards in the second half of the Super Bowl more than four years ago. It is clear that many already believe he plays defense, so throw him over there – what is the worst that can happen?

The team needs help at corner and safety, go ahead and throw Matt back there, at least then he will finally give fans a reason to complain.

Of course, this is nothing but sarcasm but it just goes to show insane some are when it comes to Matt Ryan. He has bent over backward to accommodate a franchise that done nothing to reciprocate the loyalty.

Fans across the NFL get upset when players no longer want to play under the contract that they signed, while Matt Ryan continues to restructure a contract that he earned on the field in order to do his part and help make this franchise competitive.

It’s time people appreciate that.

Next. Falcons need to be risk-takers in free agency. dark
