The Atlanta Falcons need to take their phones off of silent.

If the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins blockbuster trade are any indications, the fourth overall spot currently held by the Atlanta Falcons could be worth parting with for the 2021 NFL draft.

Many NFL draft experts believe that the best four quarterbacks in this draft could very well go in picks one through four – though the Jets could be the lone holdout given they need a franchise left tackle more than they need another quarterback.

If the Jets keep their second overall pick and take anyone but a quarterback, that means two of the four best quarterbacks in this draft – Justin Fields, Zack Wilson, Mac Jones – will be available at four. While many Atlanta Falcons fans hope the franchise drafts a quarterback at four, it is more than likely not going to happen.

Yes, the Atlanta Falcons should make a trade with the Carolina Panthers.

After the blockbuster trade went down between the 49ers and the Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons Twitter exploded with thoughts on what the fourth overall pick could be worth to a team like the Panthers who are in need of another franchise quarterback.

Of course, like everything Falcons related, there were lots of different thoughts and name-calling of those who disagreed.

That said, if the Panthers offer a ransom to the Falcons in order to obtain the fourth overall pick, Terry Fontenot has to take it and bank on his scouts and his evaluations being better than the Panthers.

Sure you may give them a top-tier QB but if you cripple their drafts for the next few years, it’s worth it.

While everyone is in love with the five quarterbacks that will assuredly go in the first round, there’s more statistical probability that none of them will be elite versus there being more than one in this draft and those are the odds that the Atlanta Falcons have to play if it means accumulating future picks to make this franchise better.

There is no better way to win your division than by crippling the efforts of those other teams by fleecing them for future assets. No matter how good your team is at attracting free agents, you cannot win a title without keeping and hitting on your high draft picks.

If you take several of those away from the Panthers over the next few years, it makes your ascension from the bottom of the NFC South a little bit easier and that should take precedence over the notion that you would help the Panthers because they drafted an unproven quarterback.
