The Atlanta Falcons control the 2021 NFL Draft in the best way possible.

Following the trade that saw the San Francisco 49ers move up to No. 3 overall in the draft, we know that the first three picks- Jaguars, Jets & 49ers- are almost a lock to be quarterbacks.

What will the Falcons do with that No. 4 pick? Well, that’s where the intrigue begins.

There were many NFL analysts early on who believed the Atlanta Falcons were seeking to find Matt Ryan‘s successor in this draft, but the latest move of restructuring Ryan’s contract doesn’t indicate that be the truth, at least not most likely.

The Falcons seem much more apt to stay away from quarterbacks with that first-round pick and instead find a weapon who can make Ryan better.

The most sensible option for the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick

The Falcons need to take a player who can come in and make a legitimate impact right away.

What does that mean? Though it doesn’t sound ‘sensible’ on the surface, the best fit for a talented playmaker who could make a major difference is TE Kyle Pitts.

Putting Pitts in an Arthur Smith offense is a thought that Falcons fans should be absolutely drooling over. There are some who believe Pitts could develop into one of the best tight ends in the league and adding him to the fold would make every facet of the offense better and would give Ryan a legitimate playmaker.

Maybe that means the Falcons can trade back a few spots and still get their guy. Maybe it means they have to take a tight end with the No. 4 overall pick.

Either way you spin it, though, Pitts seems like the most sensible option for what the Falcons are trying to accomplish and that’s to compete now in the final few years of Ryan’s career.
