Three scenarios for the Atlanta Falcons on draft night
Scenario 2: Trade down and acquire additional picks
Drafting Kyle Pitts is the best-case scenario but it’s not the only one that would make the Atlanta Falcons happy on draft night.
If the Falcons traded down and managed to stay inside the top 20 in this year’s draft while acquiring a first-rounder in 2022 along with a third-round pick in this season’s cycle, that could result in some big additions for Atlanta.
The reason this makes sense is that the Atlanta Falcons aren’t going to want to draft a defensive back or an edge rusher at four as this class is quite dry in terms of pass rushers that should go inside the top 10.
Teams like the Patriots (15), Washington (19), and the Bears (20) are all teams that are potentially looking to add a QB in the draft and would put the Falcons in a respectable position to match value with the needs they have.
There are three primer corners in this class and then after that, it’s a bit spotty but it’s not a guarantee that Jaycee Horn, Patrick Surtain, and Caleb Fairly will all go within in the top 20 picks, opening the door for Atlanta to scoop one upon moving back.
Kwity Paye, Patrick Jones, or even Greg Rousseau would be solid additions to the pass rush between the 15-20 pick range.
The Atlanta Falcons can easily acquire a boost in two big areas of needs while also adding the first-rounder in next season’s draft on top of other picks, me setting at least one first-rounder as the base for any potential trade.
Adding another pick in the early rounds will also likely be included as those picks are valuable and could allow the Falcons to add a secondary need like RB and draft a player like Kenneth Gainwell from Memphis, Javonte Williams out of Chapel Hill, or another defensive back.
This scenario could also play out quite beautifully for the Falcons.
