Three free-agent running backs the Atlanta Falcons could still target in 2021

The Atlanta Falcons don’t have much cap space, but they do have enough to bring in a couple of lower-tier free-agents to begin to fill out this roster.

The Falcons signed former Carolina Panthers RB Mike Davis to a two-year deal worth $5.5 million earlier this spring, but there’s no doubt that they’ll be wanting to pair him with someone before it’s all said and done.

That might be done in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Falcons have been linked to names like Travis Etienne and Najee Harris as potential options in the late-first round (as a trade up) or the early second round.

But could they still bring in a running back through free-agency to give Matt Ryan the most options possible?

Wayne Gallman

How about Wayne Gallman? The running back never got an opportunity to start on a consistent basis with the New York Giants, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t effective. Gallman has averaged 4.6 yards per carry for his career and he averaged 4.3 yards per carry last year.

When you combine a running back looking for a fresh start with Arthur Smith’s offensive system, you could be talking about an absolute homerun.

Gallman is physical and explosive enough to make an impact and combining him with Smith is a pairing that could prove to be a gamechanger for the Atlanta Falcons.
