The Atlanta Falcons entered the draft with the number four overall pick. With hometown guy Justin Fields still on the board, the Atlanta Falcons made the right choice by drafting Kyle Pitts.

Atlanta Falcon fans, well some of them, are probably crying their eyes out because the Atlanta Falcons didn’t draft the replacement for Matt Ryan. The reason why they simply didn’t need to address that this early.

Justin Fields would have been a wasted pick for the Atlanta Falcons

This is not a knock against Fields in any way.

Even though Ohio State quarterbacks haven’t done the best in the NFL, Fields has the tool to become the best quarterback to come out of that school. Not drafting Fields just saved the Falcons the drama of a “quarterback controversy.” Let’s not forget how Fields handled the last quarterback controversy he was involved in.

Kyle Pitts was definitely one of the few right choices the Falcons made with the fourth overall pick. He brings yet another weapon to an offense, that if coached correctly could be the best in the league.

On paper, very few teams have the talent at the skill positions like the Falcons.

Drafting a quarterback is still not off the table for the Falcons. They will need to draft one, especially since Matt Ryan is the only quarterback on the team as of now. Drafting a quarterback in the later rounds takes the pressure off Ryan and whoever they decided to pick.

At the end of the day, the Atlanta Falcons front is giving this offense a year to see what they can do under this new coaching regime.

If they improve as expected, not drafting a quarterback would look like a genius move from the Atlanta Falcons and that’s something no one has said in a long time.
