Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman has been one of the most iconic cornerbacks in the NFL in the last decade. From locking down receivers to ranting about Michael Crabtree, he’s never been far from the media spotlight.

Sherman has just turned 33 years old and it’s fair to say that his best days are behind him. We’ve said that about him before, though. Signing with the San Francisco 49ers was a risk for a man who had spent his entire career with their hated division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks.

An unexceptional first season followed and it was fair to question whether he’d made the right decision. Sherman followed it up with an exceptional 2019 season, though, making the Pro Bowl and being named Second-team All-Pro.

The Falcons aren’t in a position where they can be picky. AJ Terrell had an impressive rookie season and there are high expectations that he’ll be even better in year two. Outside of that, the Falcons are incredibly thin, though.

If you put together an expected Atlanta Falcons depth chart for the coming season, it would likely have Fabian Moreau and Isaiah Oliver starting.

That’s a problem, especially in a division with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Michael Thomas, DJ Moore, and Robby Anderson. Especially in a division with Sean Payton, Bruce Arians, and Joe Brady.

Especially with Tom Brady.

Signing Richard Sherman wouldn’t be a long-term move but he’s an ultra-intelligent, ultra-competitive player who could excel when in zone coverage. The free agent cornerback situation is bleak and Sherman stands out. Terrell and Sherman would instantly become one of the top coverage duos in the league and would allow Pees to focus on going after quarterbacks.

Next. Falcons need to extend Calvin Ridley sooner than later. dark
