Atlanta Falcons: 2021 is the most important of Matt Ryan’s career
By Joe Beasley
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is entering his 14th season as the starting quarterback for the franchise and at 36, time is not on his side. Even though he doesn’t have much to prove, this next season will be a turning point in his career.
The 2021 season will be the most important year for the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.
Atlanta Falcons fans, well at least some of them thought that the Atlanta Falcons were going to pick the quarterback of the future with the number four overall pick in this year’s draft. With names like Justin Fields and Mac Jones still available, the team decided to draft Kyle Pitts with the selection, giving Ryan another weapon on offense, or at least that’s what fans thought.
Atlanta Falcons have the tools to win in 2021
Instead of being an addition to what the Atlanta Falcons already had, Pitts ended up being a replacement for Julio Jones, who was traded to the Tennessee Titans. Arthur Smith was brought in as the head coach, which means yet another offensive coordinator for Matt Ryan, the sixth of his career.
Ryan is literally at a crossroads in his career.
There are a few people that think he isn’t clutch or can’t make the big play in the big moment. There are even some people that think Julio Jones is the reason why he’s put up the numbers he has in his career.
This season, he gets the chance to prove how valuable he can be but there are several questions surrounding this offense and not all of them have to do with the quarterback.
- Is Calvin Ridley ready to step up and be the number one guy in Atlanta?
- Can Russell Gage really be a number two receiver in the NFL?
- Will Kyle Pitts be the next tight-end matchup nightmare?
- Will the offensive line do a better job of opening up running lanes and giving Ryan the time he needs?
These are all questions that will determine how this season goes for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons. If the answers to these questions are yes, then Ryan has prolonged his stay in Atlanta.
If not, don’t be surprised if Ryan rides off into the sunset after 2021.
