Atlanta Falcons: Most important player in each of their first eight games
Week 5 – (London) New York Jets
Key Player: Jalen Mayfield (LG)
This one is more of whoever wins the left guard spot for the Atlanta Falcons, and for now, the projection will be Jalen Mayfield winning the starting spot.
Next to Marcus Maye, Quinnen Williams is no doubt the best player on the Jets’ defense; he has spent most of his time lining up as the right defensive tackle for the Jets. This puts the pressure on Mayfield to perform, Williams had a very solid season last year, and his play will only seemingly continue to improve.
Quinnen Williams is just as good of a pass rusher, as he is a run stuffer. Jalen Mayfield’s question marks definitely do not come in his power to move guys, it is his quickness and technique that will be challenged in the NFL.
This will be a huge welcome to the NFL if Mayfield wins the starting spot, he will need to assert himself early in the game to have the success needed.
Week 6 – at Miami Dolphins
Key Player: Kendall Sheffield (CB)
This may be another one that comes as a shocker, many fans believe that Kendall Sheffield will end up as a backup player. And that is most likely true, but that does not mean that the Atlanta Falcons will not use his elite speed to cover opposing speedsters.
If there is one thing the Miami Dolphins do not lack on the offensive side, it is speed.
They signed Will Fuller from the Texans, who has always been an underrated receiver when healthy. Adding to Fuller’s speed is recently drafted Jaylen Waddle out of Alabama, who was probably the most explosive receiver coming out of the draft.
Then they also have guys like Jakeem Grant and Albert Wilson who can also run with the best of them.
If there is one corner for the Falcons that can keep up with these guys, it is Kendall Sheffield. This is why Sheffield should play a big role in this game and will need to be counted on when trying to stop the Miami offense.
Sheffield may not start out with a starting spot, but he may be asked to run step for step with some of the fastest people on the earth.
