The Atlanta Falcons have had their issues on the defensive side of the ball. Whether it’s trying to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks or stop the opposing team rushing attack, the Atlanta Falcons have struggled.

The Atlanta Falcons defense has shown glimpses of what it could become.

There was the first half against the Cowboys last season in which the Atlanta Falcons were able to create turnovers and let’s not forget last year’s game against the Chiefs in what many people thought would be a blowout but instead, the Falcons gave the Bucs the blueprint on how to slow down Patrick Mahomes.

Over the past few seasons, there has always been a player on the Atlanta Falcons defense that takes the next step in being an impact player.

Last year, Foye Oluokun was that player. He was arguably one of if not, the best defensive player on the Falcons roster in 2020 – not named Grady Jarrett.  The year before that, Deion Jones reminded folks how good he was after an injury-riddled 2018 season. The question must be asked, who will be that player for the Atlanta Falcons next year?

Marlon Davidson will be the next young guy to step up for the Atlanta Falcons

With all due respect to guys like Mykal Walker and AJ Terrell, Davidson should be the choice here. Both Walker and Terrell played very well for the Falcons in 2020 as rookies and we already expect a lot from both of them in 2021.

Marlon was nowhere to be found as a rookie and has to make up for lost time.

Davidson didn’t have the best rookie year, but the talent and skillset are there. He is a versatile defender that can play standing up or with a hand down. Davidson is also quick for a 300-pound guy as well.

Playing alongside former teammate and former first-round pick Derrick Brown, Davidson was able to do some damage at Auburn especially during his senior season. Being able to play alongside Grady Jarrett will give Davidson the opportunities he needs to make plays.

The Atlanta Falcons have been trying to find a running mate for Grady Jarrett for a few years. After numerous failed attempts, if Marlon Davidson can hit that switch and turn the corners unlike those before him, the NFL better watch out. The talent is there, the hunger is there, the only thing we need to see are the results.
