Jessie Tuggle

Jessie “The Hammer” Tuggle was one of the most feared linebackers when running up the middle, during his time with the Atlanta Falcons.

It is a credit to the Falcons who were able to find Jessie Tuggle as an undrafted player from Valdosta State, through coaching connections on the two teams.

As previously mentioned, they did not call him “The Hammer” for no reason. Just go look up his highlights and you will see some of the hardest hits you have ever seen. He is an extremely fun player to watch and the type of player that was loved in the NFL back in his days.

He played for the Falcons for 13 seasons, was a five-time pro bowler, and somehow had just one second-team all-pro selection.

Tuggle was able to put up over 1,800 tackles during his time in the NFL. Including during his 1990 season, he had 201 tackles and five sacks. It is a tackle total that no one in the NFL has come close to for years.

Another thing worth noting is that he is the father of current Atlanta Falcons superstar, Grady Jarrett. Hopefully, one day we will see both of them in Canton.
