A position that has been overlooked for the Atlanta Falcons has been wide receiver. So far this year the Falcons receivers have not made the type of impact that we expected them to.

Of the top-five receiving yards leader on the team, four of them are tight ends or running backs.

  1. Calvin Ridley – 114 yards
  2. Kyle Pitts – 104 yards
  3. Cordarrelle Patterson – 71 yards
  4. Mike Davis – 48 yards
  5. Hayden Hurst – 34 yards

That is not the production that is needed from this offense. The simple fact that Calvin Ridley just barely has over 100 yards in two weeks is a huge surprise. Also missing from that list is the Falcon’s second receiver on the depth chart – Russell Gage – who only has five catches for 28 yards.

Matt Ryan deserves more help than that.

With the lack of production, the Falcons are bringing in a former 1,000 yard WR.

It is good to see that Atlanta has noticed the lack of production from the position and is looking to do something about it rather than just wait around.

They brought in John Brown who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders a few weeks ago.

He is a receiver who had great chemistry with Bills quarterback Josh Allen for a couple of seasons and was pretty productive while in Buffalo and Arizona.

John Brown has put together two 1,000 yard seasons – one coming in 2015 with Arizona and the other in 2019 with Buffalo.

Brown could undoubtedly help this team out. They are currently banged up at the position with Frank Darby missing his first two games in his career and Russell Gage coming down with an injury against the Buccaneers that caused him to miss snaps here and there.

It is seriously a thin position for Atlanta. Past Ridley and Gage, there is not much proven production. Olamide Zaccheaus has played well at times but needs to show consistency.

Obviously, working out John Brown does not mean they will end up signing him, it just means they are doing their due diligence. However, no one would complain if the Falcons decide to sign him, he is a proven veteran who could contribute almost immediately.

Hopefully, they will work something out in the coming days.

Next. Chris Lindstrom deserves more credit. dark
