Deshaun Watson is still a member of the Houston Texans an easy fact to forget having watched Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills under center for Houston this season. The Atlanta Falcons have a veteran in Matt Ryan who is still with the struggling Falcons.

Watson has made it clear he is never going to take another snap with Houston. From a pure football perspective, that bridge is burned and he is ready to move on.  It is important to note, however, any potential trades are only on the table if the very concerning accusations against Watson are solved.

These accusations are serious and go well beyond football if even a hint of them are proven to be true Watson doesn’t have a future in this league.    Watson is a top-five quarterback who is going to garner interest from a large portion of the league if his legal issues are solved.

Could Deshaun Watson find a surprising fit with the rebuilding Atlanta Falcons?

Regardless of where their record ends this is a rebuilding Atlanta Falcons team. Despite a favorable schedule Atlanta isn’t a team capable of competing late into the season and will need to add a lot of pieces, could one of those pieces be Deshaun Watson?

If you look at the move from purely a roster perspective it is an interesting one. One that would allow an all-time underappreciated Matt Ryan to move on to a team that could help the veteran make one last run at a championship. Pairing a young Watson with Calvin Ridley and a young rebuilding defense.

However, looking at the cap space and Ryan’s contract this move isn’t going to happen despite the fact it makes sense for both sides. Atlanta has the picks to acquire Watson and a young core to build around a quarterback younger than Ryan.

A quarterback who deserves another shot at a Super Bowl and proving Atlanta has only found success because of him. For Watson, it would be a young team and a franchise desperate to win willing to allow Watson to make decisions and influence their moves.

It makes sense but unless Atlanta works a miracle with their cap it simply doesn’t work. If innocent of the accusations being levied at him Watson is going to be a great building block for a team. One that is capable of making any roster relevant and a contender. Something Atlanta must at least consider if Ryan wants to move on.
